We Are Not Two We Are One by Christopher Bettig
I drove to Daly City last night to spend what was left of the weekend with Paul. I was tired from taking Charlie to doggy training, running, school and just the work week in general. Paul was just as exhausted from work and coaching wrestling. As rewarding as his coaching job has been, we are both looking forward to getting OUR weekends back. It's been a tough month for us, but we are slowly but surely finding our relationship's rhythm again.
I woke us up at around 10 this morning because my sleepy head read the clock wrong and thought it said noon. Paul took me to a nice lunch at Patio Filipino, and it was good to see Kuya Rico. The food was awesome as usual! We decided to go back to DC to watch a movie, but didn't find any of the selections all that interesting. Go figure. When we finally have time to watch a movie, all the ones out in the theaters are disinteresting. At least we have the Asian American Film Festival to look forward to.
We decided that it would be a great museum day. We went to the city and decided to spend the day at the Asian Art Museum. We easily spent two or three hours there. Paul was able to share some of Thailand's history and culture with me. I found it interesting that there were no exhibits or pieces from the Philippines, with the exception of a few daggers on the second floor as part of the "Kris" exhibit. Is this a direct result of our colonized past? Perhaps. That, however, is another blog entry.
It was great to spend time with my boo. We've experienced such a rough patch this past month, that it was nice to just slow things down and enjoy each other's company. We got back to basics today. We got back to taking care of our relationship. I think that often times, we forget that we do need to continue to nurture our relationship. It's a good reminder for us not to take each other or our relationship for granted.
I didn't know what to give Paul for Valentine's Day, but I decided that whatever it was, needed to be personal and something that has significance to me. The perfect gift? My favorite piece by Christopher Bettig. I purchased this a while back, but for some reason never took it out of the mailing case it came in because the time didn't seem right. It's a good reminder that yes, we are both committed to nurturing each other and this relationship.
Happy Valentine's Day to all of you! I love you Paul Poompan.
